Profile

Abiqua School provides a child-centered developmental approach to learning. Interdisciplinary academics are designed around a central theme.

At Abiqua, we believe that education is not simply a task of intellectual development, but one of physical, ethical and emotional growth. Abiqua's faculty teaches to the whole child assessing how each child learns and then teaching to individual strengths. Students work in multi-age groupings, spending a year in kindergarten followed by two years in each Primary, Intermediate and Senior programs.

Our classes are small, giving the opportunity for students to have ample contact with their teachers and for teachers to know the students and families. Abiqua's curriculum is both engaging and challenging. It insures competence in the basic skills of reasoning, reading, writing and mathematics. Children learn study habits, life-long decision-making and problem solving skills. In designing and revising the curriculum the School maintains the goal of excellence, creativity, continuity and balance among all the curriculum areas. Our curriculum is aligned with Oregon state Benchmarks. Abiqua integrates specialist programs in art, music, Spanish, physical education and computer technology. Before and after care programs plus a nine-week summer adventures program round out the program.
